Lest We Forget
Lest We Forget– How to stay in the flow of God’s blessing. 28 April 2024
Praise God for blessings from our church camp last weekend. It’s easy to get caught up with the complexities of life. What can we do to keep in the flow of God’s blessing? Inspiration came from ANZAC Day with its famous declaration, “Lest We Forget.” The word “lest” implies something practical is done, such as the annual parade, to ensure people remember those who sacrificed their lives for our benefit. Here are three practical things we can do to help us remember God–
- Keep a daily Bible reading and prayer time. “Be careful not to forget the LORD, who brought you out of the land of slavery.” Deuteronomy 6:10-12
Israel had been set free from slavery and were on their way to the Promised Land, flowing with milk and honey. One way for us to remember God is to strictly keep a daily quiet time; it doesn’t matter long or short–
Start with worship. Keep a diary of thanksgiving. “Enter his gates with thanksgiving.”
- Read the Bible – “Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” Ps.119:105
- Pray for your needs, – “Give us this day our daily bread,” ‘Bless the work of our hands.’ …and for others – It is an expression of love for them.
End with worship – Commit the day to God.
It will help for those who are new to memorise and pray the Lord’s Prayer. (Matthew 6).
“Capture God’s blessing for each day.”
- Plan to regularly attend church meetings. “This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.” Luke 22:19
This is not to legislate a rule but to encourage you in something that is “good for you!” Jesus instructed his disciples to do this. The leaders of our church are doing their very best to improve worship, welcoming, our messages, and our prayer to make church meetings a time of enjoyment and spiritual blessing.
- Let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together… Hebrews 10:25
- …do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased. Hebrews 13:16.
- Develop the habit of praying for everything. Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. 1 Peter 5:8. The world is still a dangerous place, but you can pray about everything that you do or that concerns you. “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” Philip. 4:6-7.
A chaplain wrote home during the WW1 from the trenches– “Do tell the… soldiers at home that they must know God before they come out, if they would adequately face what lies before them. They will need all the religion they have got, or can have… There are no atheists at the front, and men are not ashamed to say that though they have not prayed before, they are praying now.” (https://quoteinvestigator.com/2016/11/02/foxhole).
